Routes

The new map and routing features in DayBack are currently in preview.

If you'd like these features enabled for preview in your DayBack, please get in touch. (Maps, routing, and drive times require DayBack's Plus plan.)

DayBack offers an example custom action for routing a single resource's appointments on the map. This action is intended to be a starting point for customized routing behaviors, such as comparing routes or reordering appointments to create the most efficient route.

You can download the custom action here and add it to your DayBack: coming soon. (If you haven't worked with custom actions before, here's an overview.)

Here's how the routes work using this example custom action:

  • You'll see a blue map icon beside each resource on views where routes are supported. (Resources are your people, trucks, or equipment.)
  • This action is currently supported on DayBack's Pivot List and Pivot Schedule views, which are found in the Resource menu at the top of the screen.
  • Clicking on the blue map icon will create a route for that resource, including all items currently in view, even if that spans multiple days. To route a single day, switch the number of days in the resource menu to one.
  • Items are routed in the order in which they're scheduled on the calendar, with all day items coming first. We've customized this action to re-order events and even move them between resources to create an optimal route. This is customized for each deployment since everyone's criteria for "optimal" is different, including skill matching, workload requirements, and buffering. Please get in touch if that sounds interesting.
  • Only items with an address are routed. If an item has an address but has not been geocoded yet, a warning will appear at the bottom of the screen.
  • Below the selected resource, you'll see the total distance of the route; clicking it again will remove the route. The action has settings to display the distance in miles or kilometers.
  • Routes are round trips, and the distance shown is the round trip distance. The start and end of the route are the resource's location, which is a new resource field in DayBack.
